This subtle hockey themed window display showed up at Pua Naturally, the women’s clothing boutique at 701 Pennsylvania Ave NW (corner of D and 7th). Tonight is the seventh and final game of the Stanley Cup quarterfinal series between the Washington Capitals and the Philadelphia Flyers at the Verizon Center after the Caps’ exuberant 4-2 win last night in Philadelphia. We’re glad to see Penn Quarter retailers show their hometown spirit.
Armenian Museum Gets HPRB Approvals (615 14th St NW)
The SE corner of 14th & G St NW is going to look a whole lot prettier once work is complete restoring the historic building at 615 14th St NW. DC Metro Urban Development Diary has the scoop.
The basic idea is that the Armenian Genocide Museum of America will restore the building to its original historic facade – removing the Hahn Shoe store add-ons. Also a glass tower will be added on a currently empty lot adjacent to the building and will function as the main entrance.
The museum is slated to open by 2011.
Capitals Fans Show Their Spirit
If there’s any doubt in any Washingtonian’s mind that this town has a rabid hockey following, they should have witnessed the scene around the Verizon Center after the Washington Capitals beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 on Saturday. After the game (and other home playoff games) there was nothing but a sea of red jerseys; fans driving home down 9th Street beeped their horns with the signature three horn blast followed by fans on the street joining in the “Let’s go Caps!” cheer. Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association Breakfast Meeting This Wednesday
Please join us on April 23 for our next Pennsylvania Quarter Neighborhood Association breakfast meeting at Bar Louie, located in the Gallery Place atrium (just beyond Regal Cinema’s ticket booth), most easily accessible from 7th Street between Clyde’s and the Verizon Center. Those attending will receive a complimentary voucher for 50% off a weekday lunch before the end of May.
Bar Louie will serve a continental breakfast between 8:30 and 9:00. Announcements will begin at 9:00 and will be followed by our guest speaker, Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans, will talk to us about future Council initiatives of interest to our neighborhood.
