DC’s central library, the Martin Luther King Library at 9th and G Streets, has a few lunch happenings we wanted to tell you about.
Today at noon Luís Garay’s percussion ensemble will be performing in front of the Martin Luther King Library. The stage is just to the right of the MLK entrance. Seating is available but you can come by and hang out too.
On Wednesdays from noon to 2:00 there’s a table outside the library near the corner of 9th & G where you can sign up for library cards. Information about volunteering and free computer classes offered at the MLK library is also available.
Street Sense’s Little Helpers
Walking through downtown today we noticed the Street Sense vendors were a lot younger than we’d remembered. Talking to these kids we found out they’re part of a church group from Leesburg, VA in downtown to sell the papers today. The kids in the photo were at 12th & F, but we’ve seen others all over the downtown area.
Asylum Skate Shop To Be Replaced By Unnamed Fresh Casual Food Establishment
This info came straight from the leasing agent of 819 7th St NW. The agent is currently in negotiations with an unnamed fresh casual food establishment!
MSN Guiding Diners to Penn Quarter
Recently, Gayot.com, “the internet’s guide to the good life,” published a list of the District’s “Hot 10 Restaurants”. And the reviewers at Gayot clearly took a liking to the Penn Quarter neighborhood. Of the 10 spots on the list, five are occupied by Penn Quarter favorites.
The featured restaurants are Cafe Atlantico (3rd), Central Michel Richard (4th), Oyamel (7th), Rasika (8th) and Zaytinya (10th).
According to Gayot, their 20-point scale was developed from a system used by French culinary institutes. The rating focuses solely on the food while discussion of decor, ambiance and service is saved for the review.
It’s always nice to see neighborhood restaurants receive acclaim. And the inclusion of Gayot’s ratings in the MSN City Guide for Washington D.C. will no doubt increase the number of out-of-towners visiting our local favorites.
