We want to take the time today to say thanks to you, our readers, as Penn Quarter Living recently crossed an important milestone – we reached 3 million page views since inception. Compared to some of the other neighborhood sites around that thrive on lots of posts but not a lot of quality, that may not seem like much but we’ve always stuck to our neighborhood oriented mission of focusing on Penn Quarter (or very close by in Shaw and Mount Vernon Triangle) when it comes to giving you updates and news.

Saks Off 5th & Nordstrom Rack Opening Updates (E St NW @ 11th/12th St)
We have two updates for you today on two new clothing retailers coming to downtown DC/Penn Quarter, Saks Off 5th and Nordstrom Rack.
- Saks Off 5th now has signage up in their windows clearly showing their opening location where the ESPN Zone used to be. The SO5 website doesn’t list the downtown DC location yet but the signage indicates Fall 2016 – we’ll keep you posted when a date is made known. The closest SO5 is in Springfield and the closest regular Saks Fifth Avenue is in Chevy Chase.
- Nordstrom Rack will occupy the former Barnes and Noble space on the opposite side of the building. The Nordstrom Rack website does have an opening date listed and that date is October 27, 2016. We shop at the M St Rack often and look forward to the location closer to home.
Murals From A Great Canadian Train On Exhibit At Canadian Embassy (501 Penn Ave NW)
From the Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association, we learned about an interesting exhibit at the Canadian Embassy (501 Pennsylvania Ave NW). The details follow:
Murals from a Great Canadian Train on Exhibit
Through September 16, 2016In 1953, the Canadian Pacific Railway purchased 173 brand-new stainless steel rail cars from the Budd Company of Philadelphia. To highlight the natural beauty along the cross-country route as well as promote tourism, the Canadian Pacific Railway engaged prominent Canadian artists of the day who were able to create over a dozen landscape murals of Canada’s national and provincial parks to adorn the rail car interiors.
