We went looking for Proof, the new wine bar on the corner of 8th and G, and a nice viognier to sip last night but found neither. We last reported on this new venue in early May indicating a May 25 opening but brown paper is still up on the glass walls fronting the street. According to the website, the new opening date is in June. And yes, the sign says they are hiring.
627-631 H St NW To Become Office + Retail (Former China Doll & Lei Garden Buildings)
Originally tipped off from the next ANC 2C03’s agenda (pdf), we dug the following up from the Office of Zoning’s schedule:

The zoning request is par for the course as far as new buildings are concerned. We’re just a little curious about the parking situation (e.g. how many, if any parking spaces will be included).
7th Street Promenade? Just A Thought..
Recently, we’ve read about residents in Dupont Circle promoting a campaign to create a pedestrian promenade on a five block stretch of 17th St NW. They even put together a website: www.17thstreet.org.
It started to make us wonder if 7th St NW, between D St and H St could one day find itself a pedestrian promenade?
7th street is hardly useful for commuters. The two lane road is usually laden with traffic and commuters use other streets (6th or 9th St) to move more quickly. Also, 7th street does not have any parking garage entrances facing the street. With all of the retail space along 7th, plus the Reynolds Center (Smithsonian), there is little trouble envisioning a pedestrian only stretch of 7th street.
