DDOT released a Traffic Advisory regarding the annual Rolling Thunder Parade set to take place this holiday weekend. The street closure list is pretty complex, so we’ll just generally summarize it like this:
Marching Band Takes To Neighborhood Streets – But, Who Are They?
A reader wrote in to ask: “What is up with the full-on marching band that takes to the streets every now and then? I’m talking full instrumentation, baton-twirlers, flag crews, etc. It’s people of all ages.“
The answer comes to us from the Life In Mt. Vernon Square blog: It’s the United House of Prayer (UHOP) Band (from 1721 7th St NW in Shaw).
They are practicing for their parade on May 26th at 12noon and they have invited the neighborhood to join the celebration! A couple of the band members have even posted comments on the Mt. Vernon Square blog.
Just a note: while the band may be loud and may briefly interrupt what ever you’re doing at the time, please take a moment to think about how the youth are participating in some very positive activity in our city. They are very aware of their neighbors and try to end practicing by 8pm and try not to march directly into a residential area.

This hasn’t been advertised too widely, so we thought we’d post it to our blog.

Artists Dana Ellyn, Matt Sesow, Marina Reiter, and J. Coleman will have their work featured at the Good Libations monthly wine tasting this Thursday night. Please come out and enjoy some great wine from Germany and Argentina, meet your neighbors and view some local art.
Pulling An All-Nighter
Are there any 24 hour options in the Penn Quarter? If you want to stay up all night drinking cup after cup of steaming black coffee, all the while consumed in your brooding over Tropic of Cancer, do you have to sit in your own home?
The all night options seem pretty limited in PQ, although it could just be that this blogger isn’t in the know. The FedEx Kinko’s at 7th & D, and the CVS at 7th & H are the only two locations that come to mind.
But that can’t be right, can it? Set this blogger straight about our 24 hour options.
