RSS FeedDC Taxicab Emergency Fare Increase Starts Today
This is probably old news for the savvy readers of this blog, still for anyone who might have missed it expect to start paying $1 more per ride in a DC Cab starting today. Apparently the increase is related to gas prices.
Fare increase is in effect until September 19, 2007 “unless earlier terminated by the Commission.”
NBC4 had a segment about the increase this morning.

No Sidecars Or Mint Juleps On The Patio This Summer
Last year the Round Robin Bar in the Willard had outdoor seating on Penn Ave, at the corner of 14th ST. Weather permitting, cocktail tables were set up in the general area of this photo.
Hotel employees have informed us that there will no longer be outside seating for the Round Robin Bar. Of course lots of seating has been added with the addition of Cafe du Park. But the Cafe does not serve the ever delicious Round Robin favorites.

Today we bring your attention to “Tourist Alley”, that one block segment of 10th Street between E and F Streets. The daily scene includes coaches, yellow school buses and the Old Town Trolley (downtown loop and the uptown loop) loading and unloading tourists. Vendors hawking their wares completes the scene.
Economic activity for the surrounding downtown blocks is undeniably positive and having a Ben and Jerry’s nearby is great for the taste buds (but not the waistline). However, we can’t help but notice the buses that idle in the right lanes blocking traffic (sometimes during rush hour) while waiting for their spent charges to come ambling back on board, all the while pumping extra fumes into the atmosphere. Guess we have to chalk it up to the price of tourism. My only question is: Where do all those FBI hats end up?
