Yesterday scaffolding began to go up at the House Where Lincoln Died.
The house is at 516 10th ST NW, perhaps this is part of the restoration which will soon begin for Ford’s Theatre?
Completed scaffolding this afternoon.
10th & G St NW Church Prepares For Demolition (Church/Social Services Project/Condo)
Anon just let us know that construction workers are digging up the sidewalk in front of the 10th & G St NW church (First Congregational Church – FCCUCC). We suspect that workers are cutting off underground utilities in preparation of the grand event.
Background:
We thought this would be a good opportunity to post a pic that another anon reader sent to us in April along with the question: “I was wondering if anyone is watching over the site now that the church has vacated the premises and construction has not yet begun.”

Well, we saved the, err, best for last. Please take a deep breath before proceeding.
Summary of development: All office, limited parking (about 38 spaces), no retail, no residential. One thing we noticed is that throughout the site plan, the address of the development has a typo: 703 3rd St.
The coolest thing about this development is that it has one of those automated parking garage systems. There are only two other systems that we know of in DC. One is a new development in Georgetown (can’t recall the location) and the other is in the Grand Parc apartment building at 910 15th St NW.
In my discussions with the Historic Preservation Office, this development is able to be exclusively offices because the zoning allows it. It was suggested that if residential or retail is desired in this area that we take the issue up with the Zoning Office.
