RSS FeedPollin Receiveth And Giveth…But It’s Not For Everyone
Another CityPaper article worth noting regards the $50M financing mechanism for the Verizon Center upgrades that we highlighted earlier this year. The article states that Pollin sent Gilbert Arenas autographed basketballs along with a letter of thanks to the nine DC Council members who voted in favor of the financing mechanism. The other two (Wells (Ward 6) and Cheh (Ward 3) who voted neigh didn’t receive one. If one receives a $50M break for a core business from an eleven member council, how much extra effort is it to thank all of the members for their consideration instead of a portion of them? We at GPLiving have to reconsider our originally supportive view of the financing mechanism. More importantly, maybe Pollin’s actions reveal a different and previously unseen look at how he views the city.
Comfort One & ECCO Traffic (Opens Tomorrow) *Updated*
This blogger is currently observing in & out traffic at the Comfort One shoe store at 718 7th St NW. But, it looks like job interviews or training is being conducted because a lot of people are knocking on the door and being turned away.
Oh – and they have shoes now! We’re speculating on a Saturday opening (tomorrow).
Edit: We just called – they open at 10am tomorrow (4/13)!
DC DMV Moves From Downtown to Southwest
Penn Quarter residents are used to walking just a couple of blocks to the DC DMV for service (kind of ironic, we know). Well, on April 30, most of those services will be relocated to a new location in southwest:
- The long awaited opening of the DMV Southwest Service Center, located at 95 M Street, SW (2 years of renovating the former United Way building), is now a reality. We will open the new location April 30, 2007 and close the 301 C Street, NW Service Center April 28 (Adjudication Services-Hearings/Ticket Payments and Driver Improvement Office will remain at 301 C St., NW).
