Last Thursday, a WaPo article talked about neighborhood artist, Dana Ellyn, and how she wants to teach the world how to paint. The article, called Drawn to Art, goes on to explain that maybe art school is not for everyone, and suggests taking a local artist’s painting class instead. Congrats Dana!
Gallery Place Metro Station Gets Red Lights *Updated*
On March 2nd, the red line platform at the Gallery Place metro station saw a change in it’s platform lights. They are now red, instead of the usual off-white.
Bluey Blog first spotted this and has the following info: I asked a Metro employee why they replaced the traditional yellow lights with the red ones. She didn’t know, but told me that it would be cool if they put blue lights on the blue line.

Question: I noticed this morning that the warning lights on the edge of the platform were red. In another station, they looked orange/yellow. Are you testing various colors to see which are most visible?
Reply: Yes, we are testing new LED lights as pilot program at the Gallery Place Metrorail station. A few weeks ago, Metro installed new amber yellow LED platform edge lights on the lower level at Gallery Place on the Yellow and Green Line. Last night, we installed red platform edge lights on the Red Line platform to Shady Grove. We hope to install the edge lights on the other platform The decision to test these new LED lights is threefold. We wanted to find a technology that would lower our maintenance costs and reduce the number of times we must take a track out of service to install the platform edge lights. Another benefit is reducing energy consumption, which has a direct benefit of lower electricity costs for the authority. And we want to see if there are any potential safety benefits. For example, we hope to see if customers will behave differently if there are red lights on the platform edge instead of the traditional white or other colors such as amber.
