RSS FeedMore Retail Space Confirmations ("Most Wanted" Museum, NLEOA Museum, Chopt Replaces Marvelous Market)
Otavio wrote in to let us know the following exciting info:
- Washington Business Journal (WBJ), in its latest edition, reported on some substantial retail news for the neighbourhood. They confirmed that the producers of “America’s Most Wanted” have signed a lease to open a 20,000 square foot museum in Terrell Place at 575 Seventh Street, NW, the former Body Smith space. Timing of the museum opening is uncertain.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Association, housed in the AARP building, is planning to open a 90,000 square foot museum in 2011.
WBJ also confirmed that the recent Marvelous Market closing was the result of a buyout. Douglas Development closed Marvelous Market so they could put another tenant in the 1,800 square foot space. Chopt, a New York-based salad restaurant, is opening in place of Marvelous Market by late spring or early summer. Chopt will serve sandwiches, but its main draw, WBJ says, will be a salad bar where chefs use a double-bladed knife that is round and rocks on cutting boards to chop off vegetables quickly. Chopt has 3 locations in New York.

New Cab Map Is Out !
We’ve all done it in the back of a DC cab. No, it’s not Cash Cab (that’s NYC) and get your mind out of the gutter (definitely not going there). We’re talking about leaning forward in a dimly lit environment, getting jostled around trying to figure out if the ride is going to be 2 zones or 3 zones. Did I cross Nebraska Avenue? Will I have enough money left over for a spot of McD’s fries? Hard to tell when looking at a crooked, faded, torn map that has ’80s written all over it.
Old Post Office Building Redevelopment To Include Residences?
An anonymous commenter just left a message in our last post about the Old Post Office Building (1100 Pennsylvania Ave, NW) redevelopment plan. Not only was it interesting, but it was also very well linked – cheers!
- A bit off topic here, but did anyone know that GSA is looking into redeveloping the Old Post Office? Apparently they’ve been gathering feedback for a while, and looks like there’s a good chance the final project will include residences. Who knew?!
Saw it in the Q3 2006 development report (pdf) from the BID (love those reports! wish they weren’t always 6 months behind!).
It seems like one of the major challenges is that the building does not offer any parking facilities.

We note that workers can be seen going in and out of the location of these three establishments – all next to each other on 7th Street. Rocket Bar, which was supposed to open Feb 1st, has a temporary street number above its door: 714. Even the wall behind the glass door is painted light green. It shouldn’t be long before all three of these establishments open!
