DC’s new citizen emergency notification system is up on the Internet and can be found at www.alert.dc.gov. The system uses text messaging or e-mails to notify citizens of emergent situations happening in their area. We can’t vouch for the system but we will be checking it out.

Gallery Square Update – An Improved CVS?
WaTimes updates on the Gallery Square concept being put forward by Yeni Wong. Ms. Wong owns the building at 7th and H Streets, NW, housing the 24 hour CVS. A little bit of history comes with the article too; it has been 12 years since Starbucks first leased its Chinatown location.
Chinatown 1997, Ballpark 2007?
It was inevitable that the comparisons would be made. Add one cup dumpy neighborhood, one cup city government and one cup public-private development of a sports venue (and its surrounds) in a progressing economy and what do you get? The Ballpark District. Rewind to the mid-1990s and Chinatown could be described the same way; but, our story is not finished. New residential and commercial construction on empty lots is still underway in our area and lots of unoccupied retail spaces adorn our streets. The WaTimes rightly points out that it’s not as easy as it looks to get to critical mass and the cost of capital has risen since the Fed and regulators started clamping down on easy money. PQ Resident wishes future residents of the Ballpark District success in developing their own piece of ‘hood.
ANC 2C Debate & Forum Tonight!
Tonight, there will be a debate & forum with two ANC candidates: John Tinpe (ANC 2C03) and Richard Rogers (ANC 2C04). It will be more of a forum because the incumbent ANC candidates chose to decline their invitations for debate. Why don’t the current 2C03 or 2C04 commissioners ever want to meet with their constituents?
