Today, October 10, is the last day to register to vote in DC’s general election. The general election is where we vote for new ANC commissioners. You can begin the registration process online, but don’t forget to postmark the mail-in portion by the end of today.
Artist, Architect Maya Lin to speak at American Art Museum
In 1981, Yale undergraduate Maya Lin entered a public design competition for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The 21-year-old student’s design was selected, amidst controversy. Since then, Lin has continued to create intensely private experiences within public spaces in the design of other outdoor installations and memorials, including the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama. Maya Lin will lecture at the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Nan Tucker McEvoy Auditorium on Wednesday, October 18 at 6:30 pm. Free tickets are avalable beginning at 6:00 pm at the G Street lobby information desk.
DDOT Fails To Communicate Traffic Alterations, Residents Desire A "Dan Tangherlini Of DDOT"
We were reading a recent post over on Fifth & Oh regarding the sudden change from a two-way to a one-way street on the 600-700 block of O St. This reminded us of a no left turn sign that was suddenly posted in recent weeks on the northwest corner of 7th and H St in Gallery Place.
DDOT has a nice website where they publish all kinds of street closures and traffic alerts. In the past, they let us know about the repaving of certain parts of E St (a week after the unannounced repaving of the 600 block of E St). Unfortunately, most street alterations go unannounced until we find ourselves driving the wrong way on a newly designated one-way street!
We are left wondering: Wouldn’t it be nice to have a Dan Tangherlini for DDOT?
