DDOT recently sent out this traffic alert:
- The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is scheduled to mill and overlay E Street, NW from 3rd Street to 6th Street and 10th Street to 13th Street beginning Saturday, August 26th through Tuesday, September 5th, weather permitting. Through traffic will be maintained at all times, minor traffic delays are to be expected.
It seems like a few weeks ago, E St between 6th and 7th was being repaved. No notice was given for that that we know of.
Another Store Concept That Could Work On 7th Street
Scenic Artisan pointed us to a short post by Urban Places and Spaces that points out another brand concept appropriate for the vacant grocery store space on 7th Street. Sunflower Markets is part of the SuperValu conglomerate based out of Minnesota and runs stores at less than 15,000 square feet per store. Unfortunately, most of SuperValu’s stores are in west or midwest markets. After a recent excursion to New York City and seeing numerous small grocers on the upper East Side (such as the Butterfield Market) and in midtown, PQ Resident felt like inviting each one of them to move down to Washington and set up shop in the Penn Quarter. The economics could be inviting and the space is definitely available.

The most recent issue mentions everything East End from Mariah Carey’s (with Sean Paul) upcoming appearance at the Verizon Center to Le Dejeuners de Mercredi (a French lunchtime conversation group at Chapters, a bookstore at 445 11th Street, NW) to the opening play of the 2006-2007 season of the Woolly Mammoth theatre, In The Continuum.

Fitness Center Activity in Gallery Place/Penn Quarter!
We can’t begin to explain how nice the Verizon center building looked at night standing on the corner of 7th and F St NW. VIDA Fitness opened up and three floors of the building were lit up with activity. Bang Salon was busy “doing heads,” too (obligatory Blowout reference). Read the comments from yesterday for first impressions.
And this morning, we have a shocking unconfirmed report from Brian that construction on BodySmith is moving forward! We had once thought that VIDA Fitness claimed its first victim before even opening, but it would appear that BodySmith was only regrouping.
