If you haven’t already heard, Ben & Jerry’s is serving up a free scoop of your favorite flavor from 12pm to 8pm.

According to the B&J website, 1001 E Street, NW is participating in the free cone day!

We’ve been brainstorming some ideas to enhance the Gallery Place Living blog and we want your feedback!

Ideas:

GP/PQ Directory
Remember trying to find Burma restaurant for the first time? We’d create a block-by-block directory or map of Gallery Place shops, stores, and museums

Parking Map
How much is parking? Most of the time, Gallery Place residents instruct guests to just park in the garage below their condo. But, did you know that one can park in a certain lot all day on Sunday for just $5? We’d take photos of every parking garage “rate sign” and post it on a map.

Community Calendar
This one would require a lot of community help. We’d maintain a community calendar that lists ongoing and upcoming events at every Gallery Place/Penn Quarter venue.

Does anyone have other ideas? GPLiving is also an expert at creating Google Map Mash-ups, so any ideas involving Google Maps would be easy to create.

Gallery Place Weekend Review

The MLK Library’s future is still in question on 901 G St. There was a meeting last Saturday at the MLK library where residents voiced concerns over two plans: To renovate the existing building, or to relocate to a new central library at the old convention center site. The Mayor is pushing to relocate the library. (Edit: WaPo’s story)

Gifford’s is really open now – let us know what your first impressions are. We noticed from pqresident’s pic in the E St posting that the Ben and Jerry’s (next door to Gifford’s) has a sign out on the street. Don’t know if this is because of the new competition or not!

WalkingTown presented their spring edition of 50 free walking tours around DC (including a Penn Quarter tour!). Too bad GPLiving was out of town and couldn’t let our loyal readers know in advance – ugh! Did anyone go on one of these walking tours? Looks like there are three options to get in on the Penn Quarter walking tour in the future: 1) Wait until September 16 to go on the $10 tour, 2) Wait until April 2007 for next year’s free tours, or 3) Arrange a private tour. We’ll keep tabs on any other free walking tours.

Flashpoint held it’s Micro-Monumental opening reception and juror’s talk by the Hirshhorn’s Kristen Hileman last Thursday.

Lastly, we can’t ignore pqresident’s awesome news-breaking ability to deliver the Balducci’s story from late last week. We’ll note that pqresident’s article, with the help of an Anonymous source, tipped off our local news outlets to the story. Great work!
