Penn Quarter – If you follow Penn Social at 801 E St NW you’ll see lots of happy hour announcements but there has been no mention of Riot Act, the comedy theater that preceded Penn Social and hosted comedy shows. This story gives a version of accounts as to why Riot Act ceased to be and it’s certainly interesting. [Washington CityPaper]
Downtown – Maddy’s Tap Room is getting close to opening at 13th and L St NW. [Prince of Petworth]
Southwest – The Washington Design Center, walking distance from Penn Quarter, hosts interior designers and design company showcases of all sorts. The building has been sold for $50 million and will become a Bible museum. Chalk up another private museum in the area. We’ll miss checking out all the cool design stuff though. Downtown – An ad about guns now graces the side of an apartment building and some people are all a flutter. [Washington Business Journal]
Penn Quarter – DC Shorts, a short film festival, begins September 6 and will be showing films at both the Navy Memorial Theater and at the E Street Cinema. Two of the parties will be in Penn Quarter/Downtown. [DC Shorts website]
Penn Quarter – The Alliance Francaise at 421 7th St NW is hosting free French lessons during the lunch hour all this week as a part of their open house program. C’est bon! [Alliance Francaise website]
