The main takeaway from the article is this: A DC branch of the cafe is set to open this month or next on E Street near Penn Quarter. The address is approx. 616 E St NW.

OK, I’ve never opened a business, but I have to agree with Andy. Could there be a worse time for a baked potato place to open than spring? It will be six months before I’m craving anything they offer! I just don’t understand what these businesses are thinking by holding off before they open. They’ve clearly just been stalling, since the interior’s pretty much built out.
Don’t discount the potato. The tuber is very versatile. It can be prepared a multitude of other ways, rather than baked, and it doesn’t have to be served warm. The menu sounds delicious and I can’t wait.
They have salads also! I just phoned the location in Annapolis for an update. Now they say April/May.
If you’ve ever been to the Annapolis location, you’ll know that they actually serve a few other things other than potatoes (like salads, if I recall correctly), and that their potatoes are also chocked full of fresh toppings like artichoke hearts and alfalfa sprouts, and often topped with even summery items like mango slices, so they don’t all feel like a heavy wintertime dish. while the toppings may not make sense on paper, the result is rather unique and tasty, and I am looking forward to the addition to our neighborhood and something different from the standard chain sandwich shops and coffeehouses we’ve got everywhere. I also think the suggestion for a sweet potato isn’t a bad one, and I would recommend putting the suggestion to the owner. I just hope they stay open past lunchtime!
Anon: thanks for the info. I think that Potato Valley indicated that they will initially keep extended ours, but if demand isn’t there, they will scale back to lunch time only.

just when the temperatures start pushing up, and Washington’s hot summer looms….we get a hot baked potato place. Their timing isn’t great, but I’m excited to try them out.
