I keep seeing a bit of work done in the old Juan Valdez. Any idea what’s going on in there?

Comment by gpliving on October 28, 2008 @ 6:03 pm

washingtonydc: Yes, I’ve observed the work too, but still haven’t seen any permit activity. We’re keeping an eye on it!

Comment by MtVernonTriangleStudent on October 28, 2008 @ 8:46 pm

The former Juan Valdez site is being converted into a Tangysweet frozen yogurt shop.

Oh, yay! I love the tart frozen yogurt and this will definitely make a great afternoon snack since it’s within a block of my office!

Right on, Kimberly.
Yes, a tall tart frozen yogurt will be a welcome addition to the delectable offerings of PQ. Make mine strawberry :)

That is some of the best news I’ve heard in a while. We were just talking about how we would love to have one of those yogurt places in the neighborhood.

What’s the status on Wagamama? Have they started construction yet?

BTW: The Pew Building (9th and E) is an AMAZING idea: a village of non-profit organizations who get to rent the space at below-market rates. GREAT!

From the BID’s newsletter:
Private Sector – Pew Charitable Trusts
Pew Charitable Trusts, a major nonprofit charitable organization based in Philadelphia, purchased the 10-story building at 901 E Street for $155 million in February 2008 to create a “Nonprofit Village,” where 90% of the space will be leased to nonprofit groups at 10% to 15% below market rates. Comparable commercial space in the area ranges from the mid-$50s to the mid-$60s per square foot. In addition, the building houses Pew’s Washington staff, which has grown from 10 to 150 in eight years and will double to 300 by 2011. Pew is currently renovating the building to meet LEED certification.
