PQ Building Permit Update (Rocket Bar Expansion, Bruegger’s Bagel Shop, Apple)
First things first: Ohhhh, we saw “Apple – DC” and just about had a heart attack. But, no, it is only for a corporate office in Penn Quarter (901 15th). Don’t get too depressed because the Penn Quarter is getting a Bruegger’s bagel shop (505 9th)! Also, Rocket Bar (714 7th) will be expanding. We think they’ll expand upwards since the office space above it is currently vacant.

I am happy to see a true, blue bagel shop (Bruegger’s) come downtown. Bruegger’s was a college favorite of mine.
Great news about the bagel shop! I hope it will be open on weekends, and not just weekdays for the office crowd. I thought that building wasn’t supposed to have any retail in it?
Mr. T: That’s what we thought too! I guess the Washington Stage Guild isn’t using up *all* of the ground floor space.
Speaking of places only being open for the office crowd, Potato Valley on E Street (b/t 6th and 7th) is no longer open on Saturdays and they are not staying open for dinner. The manager said they did not do enough business during those times to support keeping the shop open. I was disappointed but not surprised.
Be still my heart!!! A real Bagel Shop!
Ya know there are so few real bagel shops in DC anylonger; off the top of my happy head I can only think of Einstein bagels in Georgetown. What a coup!
Well I’ve got to go now, heading down to Dunkin D!
No idea when it’ll open, but if anyone wants to call Bruegger’s HQ at 802-660-4020, let us know what you find out!
The phone for Bruegger’s gave 888 822 5370 as the number for info. However they are not given any info on opening dates or approx. dates. I gave the rep my contact info and said if you want it posted on the best free neighborhood marketing there is…PQLiving Blog, of course…then get back to me with the opening info. I’ll probably never hear back but this Gallery Place Gal just has to try.
#5: as for Potato Valley, they are at least open until 7:00 p.m. on weekdays. I recognize, however, that isn’t very late for those with long hours or commutes back to PQ.
It’s too bad Potato Valley didn’t do enough business to keep weekend and extended weekday hours, I thought their food was really tasty and a great treat on a cold weekend afternoon. If we’re going to push for residential neighborhood amenities, and not simply businesses with office hours, we need to support the cause.
Rocket Bar will be expanding into the basement of next door building. They should be doubling their current space and adding more game-room amenities.
Does anyone remember for sure; was Bedrock Mgt., the owner of Rocket Bar, the same company that brought us Velocity Grill, the first restaurant in the Verizon, then MCI, Center where The Greene Turtle now is?
Don-t give up on Patato Valley Cafe yet — quite the opposite. I am working with Barbara on a new marketing campaign which will start in February. I believe that after a few weeks, she will be busy as all get out. However, keeping the store open for dinner is a challenge for a variety of reasons. Stay tuned.
i do hope pot valley will stay open later soon… it takes a while to build up a clientèle..but both times i tried to go..they were closed guess i work too late..xoxo

That’s great news. I don’t really eat bagels, but a lot of people do, and it’s a nice addition. It also gives me another coffee option, which is always welcome. And it’s great to see a Rocket Bar expansion. I like that place when it isn’t crowded. I noticed they had a line to get in the other day. That’s insane.
