Shakespeare Theater’s Harman Center – Behind The Scenes
The bloggers at PQLiving were recently given a special tour of the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s new Harman Center at 6th & F St NW. While we were there, a tech rehearsal of Tamburlaine was in progress. The following is a picture tour of the evening.
First stop was a behind the scenes look at the Tamburlaine tech rehearsal. You can see the computer screens of the lighting, sound, and effects controls.
A view from the worst seat in the house.
The theater in the Harman Center is completely isolated from the surrounding building. Here, you can see a huge rubber isolation joint. The red line metro runs pretty close by, and an office building sits on top of the theater. When recording a performance, the ultra-sensitive microphones are spared from outside noise.
A shot of the wig and makeup room. Britney Spears probably has one of these too.
Our hero, Michael Kahn (Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Theatre Company)! At this time, Kahn was cracking jokes about the puny sounding whip crack sound effect.

Might want to check out the kick off party for their new $10 ticket deal for folks 35 and under. It’s Tuesday with $10 tickets for Tamburlaine, DJ, door prizes and drink specials.
