Sightlines: US Treasury to Union Station
With the winter removal of the opaque construction fence on the southwest corner of the American Art Museum/National Portrait Gallery block, a fifteen street sightline along F Street was restored from the US Department of the Treasury on the west (top photo) to Union Station on the east (bottom photo). That’s progress by any name.

At last we can walk down the street without fighting our way through the long lines outside the Spy Museum. Yeah.
Mr. T (and others): I work in Terrell Place, at 7th and F. Here is the news bit our firm sent out to employees re: the sidewalk project:
The owners and building management of Terrell Place have been working closely with the DC Government, engineers and consultants to remedy the building’s existing water infiltration problems. It has been determined that most of the water issues arise from water seepage in what is known as the vault area (an area which is part of this building, owned by the DC government and partially located in the street and extending into our space). In an effort to eliminate these problems, a major project will begin next week that will involve the closing of sidewalks and portions of the streets that surround our building. There is no doubt that this work will be noisy (jackhammers will be at work until 11:00 am each day) and obstruct the normal flow of pedestrian traffic, although an alternative walkway will be in place . The entire project, while it will be performed in stages, should be complete within a 3 to 4 month period. I do want to point out that at one point, not one of the first stages, the building entrance doors on 7th Street will be removed and this entrance will be closed entirely during that stage. As additional information becomes available, we will, of course, provide it to you. We understand the inconvenience this will cause and appreciate your patience and understanding.
Hooray! I’m all for new construction, but DC’s greatest architectural asset is its sightlines, and F St is one of the best east-west ones.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I’m so, so glad that sidewalk has been reopened after all those years of construction. Yay!
As if to counterbalance that, they’re now again digging up the sidewalk in front of Rosa Mexicano. What for, and for how long, I wonder?
