St Patrick’s Day 8K
Mrs. Columbo was live on the scene this morning of the 20th running of the St. Patrick’s Day 8K. The race started at 9 am, and it looks like some of Penn Ave was shut down. Any PQ Living readers compete in this event?
Also note that St. Patrick’s day is March 15th this year, by order of the Irish Bishops, who want to avoid a conflict with Holy Week.

I ran it — it was nice getting a close-up of the Newseum and Newseum condos. I love that whole building.
A great event! Now 4,045 folks can say that that they ran with the Mayor of Washington, DC. A wonderful way to use our national mall and surrounding areas in the early morning Sunday morning.
Happy St. Patrick’s day to all!

One thing about the course was mean: you think you’re almost done, then you take a two block detour down tenth street. Otherwise a nice change from my usual runs on the Mall.
Yes, this St. Patrick’s day race was previously a different length and on a different course. While Sunday was the 20th running of the event, this was the third running on this course.
Mapping a race is exceptionally challenging given restrictions by police and special interest groups. Normally this race would be closer to the 17th, but this year that is Palm Sunday when churches dislike road closures. Such is life in the shared space of the National Mall and nearby neighborhoods.
I’m glad you had a good time! Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all!

I was there. Not all that bad – only really chilly while waiting for the start and walking home. I love (as a runner) when they have races on the city streets as opposed to out at Haines point, but this course is like running a race inside your apartment, lots of very sharp turns and turnarounds.
