Sushi Roll In Paradise! Momiji Opens (503 H St NW)
Big thanks go out to Mark for sending us these pics of the newly opened Momiji sushi restaurant! It’s located at 503 H St NW. We reported last year that Becky Cafe was being turned into a sushi restaurant and here it is!
A quick search on the word Momiji turns up some interesting info: Momiji is one of the main characters of a Japanese animation series called Fruits Basket. And, apparently, Momiji turns into a rabbit when girls hug him. Ehhhm..
We haven’t heard any reports of the quality of the sushi, but if it is anything like the decor of the outdoor area in the rear of the building, we’re expecting a reality-bending experience! Yes, those are illuminated palm trees! Jimmy Buffet would approve.

A bit on the pricey side, but the sushi is excellent. More traditional Japanese than Asian Spice. No delivery though…
Got some sushi to go the other day for lunch. It was great! And their ginger dressing is some of the best I have had in the city. Welcome, Momiji. I look forward to visiting you a lot and to trying some of your hibachi too!
It’s pricey when compared with the Chinese restaurants, but not really for sushi.
A Tuna roll (6 pieces) is only $4 any time of the day.
At lunch you can get 2 rolls for $10 with Miso soup and salad included. Green tea is of course free.
The shrimp tempura with vegetables was only $16 for dinner and the portions were quite generous (6 large shrimp plus various vegetables with soup or salad included).
I wish this place much success and many customers.
PS There is a great bar upstairs as well as dining tables.
I ate here tonight. I was pleasantly surprised with the ambiance/design of the 2-level restaurant. Everything was clean and new.
The sushi was excellent. I think the specialty rolls are their strength – very well presented. Plus, there is an 8 seat hibachi grill! The back deck will have seating that will surely be popular come next spring.
Also, they looked very well equipped to handle carry-out orders.
Hopefully it’s better than both Asian Nine and Asia Spice, which I found to both be disappointments. Based on the menu I got in the mail, it looks pricey.
This makes me happy but I want to know if they do a “all you can eat” Sushi (like Benihana does…) and/or if there is a website for this place. It is very close to my home so I am thrilled about there being a good Sushi place in my neighborhood.
