Take Five Guy
The lyrics to Take Five are not often sung, but they seem appropriate for our neighbor we call Take Five Guy. When the weather gets warmer he’s out in PQ serenading all around with his version of Take Five. Sure he misses a few notes, but it’s a tough song and we enjoy his rendition all the same.
Or perhaps very young kids are near and his sax lets out the theme to Sesame Street. Young adults? That’s when he’ll answer with the theme to Sanford & Son.
On the roofs of more than a few downtown buildings I’ve heard his music waft its way up the 12 stories. As PQResident pointed out in the comments section of his moving post about the valet learning English, we get to know the people in our neighborhood, sometimes without knowing their names.

Eep. I really dislike the saxophone player. Try working in the building when he’s outside blasting a poor rendition of Sesame Street at the Hard Rock Hordes. He’s the only thing I won’t miss about the neighborhood when I move offices to SW in a couple weeks.
But, gosh, will I miss the Thursday farmers market, Cowgirl Creamery, the city’s best CVS pharmacist (the petite lady – she is excellent), and great shopping/dining options. I would consider moving to PQ if the parking situation was as easy as it is where I now live on the Hill.
sorry to sounds a negative note, but I’m with #2 re sax man. He of course has a right to earn a living and to entertain the tourists (and PQ residents). And Take 5 is a fine song. But it makes me cringe every time – knowing that that George Michael song, or that Whitney Houston song, or the Sanford&Son theme is sure to follow. Night after night, sometimes 2-3 times a night…..gets old in a hurry.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I’ll take Take Five Guy over Adams Morgan’s Compliment Man. but maybe that’s because Compliment Man never complimented me instead focusing his flowery remarks on my female company.
haven’t seen Exercise Man in a while now.
