Verizon Center Summer Drought Begins
A quick look over at the Verizon Center’s event schedule reveals that we are a couple of weeks into “event drought season.” Things will be fairly quiet at the VC until about October when the NBA season starts up.

It seems odd that there would not be concerts or other big events there all summer. Is it b/c the concerts start to be held in outdoor venues this time of year? Anyway, seems weird to me.
I think the word drought is relative. there are concerts during the summer – Lady Gaga, Maxwell, Taylor Swift and so on – but unlike sports season (October to April), the Phone Booth isn’t in use 5 nights per week every week.
That non real”sports” team the Mystics plays in the summer. If they ever start winning a few games, the crowds will be back. There was a day when they outdrew the Capitals, but Abe Pollin didn’t consider them a real sports team either, and killed the fan base by not investing in the team.
DC is quiet in the summer anyways, especially once Congress goes on recess. It gives adequate time for the VC to make improvements for the arena during this time. I don’t mind a few months without the crowds.

im always conflicted about the drought…on the one hand i love the energy that the verizon center events bring..on the other… wow the peace and quiet is just lovely in the summer!
