Let Them Eat Waffles! (At The Lincoln House)

Posted by Columbo

Thanks Much to Ed for the tip!

We’ve spoken to everyone who will talk to us at the Waffle Shop and the  Lincoln House Restaurant Bar & Deli, they’ve all confirmed that the Waffle Shop is moving to the Lincoln House.  The details they provided include:

  • The menu & staff will move to the Lincoln House Restaurant (ground floor space).  No word on the basement bar/restaurant of the Lincoln House.
  • Move should happen in the very near future, as early as next week.
  • Name may eventually change to the Lincoln House Waffle Shop.
  • No word on what will happen to the counters or sign from the Waffle Shop.

This blogger couldn’t be happier to hear that the greatest greasy breakfast in PQ will live on past the demo of the Waffle Shop’s current location.

Be still my beating heart! That’s great news. It looks nice and clean in the picture too. yay!

Didn’t HPRB declare that Jemal had to preserve the exterior of the Waffle Shop? I would read that as meaning the sign would have to say. I’d also imagine that the original Waffle Shop interior will have to be gutted for the new tenant. Unless someone is willing to pay for the counters and stools and haul them away, those will be trashed as well. If I wasn’t broke, I’d set them up in my backyard. It’s a shame they had to go, but they’ve lived a good long life. If all that bubblegum under the counter could talk…

Hopefully that they’re in a less grungy interior, PQ residents will avail themselves of some of the best cheap diner fare DC has to offer.

The Waffle Shop is a million times better than the Waffle House and hopefully this will dispurse the brunch crowds on Sundays!!!!

I remember talking to a waitress at the WH and she said the place was in great need of repair — obviously. The point being it sounded like it was a “tear down” rather than “restore” type of place (other than the signage).

they totally need to do Lincoln’s head in neon, a la Waffle Shop. maybe not as big though.

Stating that the Waffle Shop is better than Waffle House is incorrect. Saying that it is a million times better makes you sound ridiculous. I’m kidding, sort of.

What are their plans for the Waffle House?

This is off topic but the outside seating area for Chipotle is gone. Please tell me this is permanent.

This is great news about the Waffle Shop! Would it be illogical or tacky to just move the “historic” sign to the new location?

Comment by marnie on September 29, 2007 @ 11:02 am

That’s great that the Waffle Shop won’t disappear, but one of the grea t things about it is the sign and the counter. If those are gone, the block will definitely be more sterile and less uniquely DC. Sigh.

This place is so awesome. Great food, great people – a DC landmark!!
