Wagamama Noodle House Coming to Penn Quarter!

Thanks to Nicola, Cheryl, and DCDAVE for writing in to let us know (via WaBizJo) that Wagamama noodle house will be opening up on 7th Street in PQ later this year or early next year! If we had to guess what 7th St space the restaurant will occupy, we’d say the former Juan Valdez space at the corner of 7th & E St or the ground floor of the IBEW building (between I & Mass).

Penn Quarter is continuing the trend of attracting international restaurant chains looking to break into the US market. Nando’s from South Africa, Vapiano from Germany, La Tasca from the UK, and now we have Wagamama from the UK! Wagamama seems to have landed in Massachusetts last year with two store openings. Penn Quarter will be the location of their 3rd US-based restaurant.

For those who were curious, wagamama is a japanese name that means “willful, naughty child.”

Check out their US menu (pdf)!

Good stuff – tasty food, pretty quick service, a good mid-range casual choice.

La Tasca, Nando’s, Wagamama – it’s just like being back in central London, but at about half the price. Now we just need a chip shop and a cheap Indian takeaway!

According to this, Wagamama has signed a lease for the Olsson’s space?

I had not idea Wagamama was even in the states yet! I used to live on their noodles when I lived in London…one of the few reasonably priced restaurants in the city (kabab/chip shops don’t count).

This is very good news for PQ…Wagamama is delish!

I like the name! And their menu looks appetizing!

Wagamama takes me back to living in the Kings X area near Islington in the LON. I’m eagerly awaiting Nando’s, too. All we need now is a Tesco or Sainsbury :) And Topshop!

Olsson’s? Say it ain’t so….we want Olsson’s and Wagamama.

Anyone know how their ramen is? I’ve yet to find a good ramen place in the DC area… let alone an authentic one. Though those might be the same thing.

JRM, I must have lived right down the street from you. I was in Angel, corner of City Road, Pentonville Road, and St. John Street.

I love Kings Cross…so many good nightclub back by that giant railyard.

ATTN PQ READERS – Pret A Manger, UK Sandwich shop, is also expected to open in DC next year – talk about a foreign invasion :)

Markdc – Where did you see that Pret A Manger is scheduled to open a location in DC? I emailed there company earlier this year and was told that they had no plans to open a store in DC. Just curious. Thanks.

MarkDC will it be in PQ?

Comment by markdc on March 20, 2008 @ 12:45 am

I think they will open next year. You can assume one location will be in PQ.

From the site below:
“Rapid US Expansion
Today, in the US market, Pret’s plans to quadruple its New York footprint-going from 11 food shops to 55 or more. And to build upon Pret’s tremendous US growth, future plans include expansion into the Boston and Washington, DC markets”

Does anybody know if Co Co Sala is open yet? It was featured in today’s Express.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
