While You Were At Work Yesterday: School Boy Assaulted *Updated*
One of the weird things about living in the city is that so many things happen throughout the day; and if you aren’t watching, you’re missing something. Sometimes missing something is a good thing. For example: Yesterday afternoon, after school had just let out, a school boy was shot once assaulted on the Northwest corner of 7th and G St NW. Crazy, hunh?
Fortunately, we live in a new media world – and The life of Mb has a first person account of the whole ordeal.
The only other mention we’ve found of the crime is this short blurb from the MPD:
- Monday – there was an assault in the 700 blk of H St NW (not NE) that led officers into a pursuit of a red Cadillac that ended up crashing into the gate of 800 5th ST NE – suspects fled on foot and were not apprehended (scene blocked off until tow truck and our helicopter was used for the pursuit)
As this blogger walked home later in the night, there wasn’t even a hint that anything happened just a few hours earlier on that corner. Not that there really should be, right?
BTW – We think the boy is ok.
Update:
- MPD – 1D DID GET A CALL FOR A SHOOTING THAT OCCURRED AT 7TH AND G ST, NW – UPON ARRIVAL OFFICERS OBSERVED THE RED CADILLAC FLEE FROM THE SCENE AND PURSUED THE VEHICLE TO 800 5TH ST NE – THE SUBJECTS BAILED OUT AND MADE GOOD THEIR ESCAPE –
IT WAS REVEALED THAT THE STUDENT WAS PUNCHED IN THE FACE AND KNOCKED OUT- NO GUNFIRE—INTERVIEWS ARE BEING CONDUCTED TO FIND OUT WHO THE SUSPECTS WERE
CAR WAS IMPOUNDED AS EVIDENCE AS WELL

That’s crazy–the chase ended in front of my house! The fence the car hit? My fence!
I’m glad to hear no one was hurt.
Crime is getting out of hand in our neighborhood. I just read about a gang called “7 & O” because they are located at 7th St NW & O Streets. That is just a few blocks away. It appears that several shootings have taken place recently in our neighborhood because there is a gang war going on between the 7 & O gang and three other gangs. WTF! Let’s discuss our concerns with Commander Groomes ASAP. We cannot have shootings at our front door.
Anon: 7th & O is not in our neighborhood – it is 7+ blocks north in the Shaw neighborhood. Also, Shaw is in a completely different police district not headed by Commander Groomes.
(Chinatown is PSA 101) 7th & O is PSA 308 headed by Lt. Ralph Neal. 3D Commander is Larry McCoy.

gpliving: Yes, 7th and O is officially in Shaw, but it is only 5 blocks away, and I don’t think that gang members respect ANC or PSA boundaries.
I strongly agree with Chris. We need to encourage the police to work together across geographic boundaries. In addition to our self-interest of keeping gang-related crimes out of our neigborhood, I hope this is an opportunity to show support for our neighbors in Shaw and their efforts to eliminate gang culture. Do communicate concern to Commander Groomes so 1D can support 3d.
Chris: You took my comment out of context. I was referring to anon’s comment about getting District 1’s commander involved in District 3’s matters.
But, to try to keep things relevant to this blog’s name, we do not cover events that happen outside of Gallery Place. That’s what the links to the 5 Shaw blogs are for (linked to on the right column).

My next door neighbor saw this as well.
