Apple iPhone Lines In PQ
Yesterday was the release date of the new, and highly subsidized, Apple iPhone. For a cool $199 and a 2 year contract, you too can own an iPhone. For once, the seemingly underutilized AT&T stores in Penn Quarter were buzzing.

I heard that AT&T ran out of phones in the morning. Apparently Apple only allocates them by the hundreds to AT&T stores, while Apple stores get many thousands. In any case, not as many iPhones were sold on Friday because of the iTunes servers crashing. (The phones are activated through iTunes.)
Look for more lines today (at least in Apple stores; AT&T stores will have to wait in line too).

Those of us who have the “old” Iphone suffered all day. Bought mine in October, 2007. The promised 2.0 software wasn’t yet available and the Apple site was slow. AT&T phone service was spotty. By the end of the day, things were better. But I am still left marveling at the marketing that brings people to stand in line just to have the newest product. Apple is very smart!
