Hollywood Tans Coming Soon to Penn Quarter

Posted by gpliving
July 26, 2006

Brian sends us word that Hollywood Tans is coming soon to Penn Quarter! The shop’s address is probably 629 625 D St and it is on the right hand side of The Lafayette’s entrance (631 D St).

From the sign, it looks like you can get unlimited tanning for $19.99/mo. We don’t expect there to be a long wait for the opening because the salon probably doesn’t need a lot of interior work performed. Enjoy!

FYI: According to the website, the address is 625 D St. NW, and appears to be the only Hollywood Tan location in the District to date.

Hey there! Great job on this blog. I really enjoy the updates. I went to the Hollywood Tans website, and, for some reason, they have the address as 625 D Street NW. Aufwiedersehen!

am not too thrilled about it; I wish it was the site of a small grocery store; not a deli-type grocery store but a real small grocery store

By a real small grocery store do you mean a convenience store? A 7-11 would be great. I don’t tan but I don’t mind the Hollywood Tan place coming to Penn Quater. It’s retail and retail attracts retail. At least it isn’t a coffee shop!

Ugh. A tanning salon? Ghetto. What’s next – a check cashing place?

While we’re making wishes (hey, it is Christmas In July time), not only a grocery but a day spa would be nicer…..perhaps one day….:)

Yeah a day spa…that’ll attract a lot more people than a tanning salon. Whatev.

Comment by Anonymous on July 26, 2006 @ 11:52 am

when does it open!

Comment by Andy Pino on July 26, 2006 @ 1:01 pm

I’m not quite sure how a tanning salon is “ghetto” but at least there are alternatives in the neighborhood. By the way, Celadon Day Spa and Toka Day Spa are both in the area.

I agree with Andy in his comment about tanning salons being not “ghetto”. On the contrary, unlimited tanning per month can be upwards of $100 (as it is in Cleveland Park). I am quite excited for the new retail!

Comment by dave on July 26, 2006 @ 1:39 pm

agree that tanning salons aren’t “ghetto”. in fact, shouldn’t a demand for darker skin be a better barometer of gentrification than say a coffee shop or yoga studios?

A little more info for all of you TAN ENTHUSIASTS (such as myself) – The store will OPEN IN SEPTEMBER (so keep laying out at the pool).

The $19.99 promotion is for a Membership package that has a minimum of 3 consecutive months of unlimited tanning and thereafter you can either cancel your membership or continue at that same rate.

Unlike other memberships at other salons, you cannot “hold” on months, meaning you must pay the full $19.99 every month unless you cancel.

However, when you compare this to the cost per unlimited month, it is actually cheaper to do a year unlimited at $19.99 a month verses only 3 unlimited months at $90 per month.

Just a little bit of help.

Great info! Thanks Anon.

umm, yah, I was guilty of that same bad remark when I moved to my first neighborhood in DC. –> “why aren’t there tanning salons around here?” Quite the blond moment.

Anyway, I agree a small grocery would be great. I’m working on my friend who is opening a place in Foggy Bottom to move our way.

Now.. if anyone could give me a suggestion on a good drycleaner around here, I’d be oh so happy.

have I mentioned lately, I love your site?!? ;-)
