More Mexican in Gallery Place/Penn Quarter: Qdoba Mexican Grill

Posted by gpliving
April 7, 2006

Jeff pointed us to this info from the latest Downtown DC Bid Newsletter:

    Make it Mexican

Qdoba Mexican Grill is now open on E Street between 10th and 11th next to the Landmark Cinema. The first Qdoba Mexican Grill opened in Denver in 1995, and the fast-casual chain now has more than 195 restaurants located in more than 30 states. Qdoba Mexican Grill combines fresh ingredients with an innovative combination of sauces, salsas and marinades to create non-traditional, fast-casual Mexican fare. Qdoba’s menu centers around large signature burritos that offer unique flavors, including poblano pesto, fajita ranchera and chicken molé. The menu also includes grilled quesadillas, taco salads, nachos, Naked Burritos®, tacos and soup. All entrees are prepared in front of the customer and topped with personally selected ingredients, including one of five distinctive salsas. Qdoba is a wholly owned subsidiary of Jack in the Box Inc (NYSE: JBX). Check them out at www.qdoba.com.

Has anyone tried this place out?

Update:

I also forgot to throw in there that, yesterday, I noticed a worker from the Juan Valdez coffee shop handing some coupons on the sidewalk opposite of the store. I wonder why some of the overflow from Starbucks hasn’t made its way across the street? The Juan Valdez is mostly empty when I go inside, despite its strong drinks.

Holy crap is that still Gallery Place – 11St?

Definitely still Gallery Place. The closest metro stop is a tossup between Metro Center and Gallery Place (9th & G).

Poor Juan Valdez. :(

Anon: You’re right, it’s probably more like “Metro Center Neighborhood.” That’s why I listed Penn Quarter in there too..

I have tried the tacos and enjoyed them. It’s great to be able to stop there on my way home from work. Also, I consider it to be relevant to Gallery Place as more retail and food establishments improve the overall neighborhood.

I tried Qdoba today and it was great. The people were really friendly too.

On another note, I am a graduate student in the Communication, Culture and Technology Program at Georgetown University and I am conducting an online survey about neighborhood and community-oriented web sites, listservs, and blogs.

The questions should take 5 to 10 minutes to complete. If you would like to participate Click here to take survey

I love the Juan Valdez! It is my favorite place in all of Gallery Place! So open, such friendly people, new and interesting coffees.

What is not to love, unless, of course, you are addicted to whatever crack-like substance Starbucks puts in its coffee. Oh wait, maybe that is just sugar, or even more likely yet, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP. Americans lap that stuff up. Down with the corn subsidies I say!
