New Metro "Next Train" Kiosks Debut Today In Gallery Place!
Thanks to Mark and Andy for letting us know that the new Metro “Next Train” kiosks have appeared outside the Gallery Place station today.
There is one (just a flat screen) in the tunnel before the gates in the 7th & H St entrance, and there is a cylindrical kiosk shown in the Wmata video at the Verizon Center entrance (it’s easier to spot when you’re leaving the station than entering).
Click here to see the video! Looks futuristic!

Sorry, but I have to make an addendum to my Akridge vs. Jemal rant:
Anyone who thinks developers wouldn’t rather fill up ground-floor spaces with offices instead of retail should pay attention to how much effort Akridge, Jemal, et al. put into leasing their commercial space, and how much of an afterthought the retail is. These developers would love to extract commercial rents for every square foot of their properties, and zoning laws are the only way to keep them from doing so. Which is why JPI’s flout of the grocery store zoning is so concerning. Where do we draw the line?
It’s cool alright, but at $100k per major station, it’s an odd choice of priorities, esp. since the new screens at least *appear* to be much more breakable than the old style.
I saw the flat screen in the tunnel at 7th and H the day they went up, and by afternoon it was gone and haven’t seen it since. I don’t want to make assumptions, but seems to me a flat screen TV would be a pretty tempting target hanging out there in the open.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Could those be any cooler?!? Love it.
Noticed that two mid-block store fronts in Akridge’s Carroll Square development have been leased to a new restaurant/lounge called “C3 Fix” (a place for non-profit junkies?). Can’t find it on the internets, but looks like a combination coffee house/lounge. ABC notice says they will serve coffee house-type fare (pastries, chocolates) but will also have a DJ for entertainment (no dance floor). And obviously alcohol, hence the ABC notice.
To no surprise, looks like Akridge is already winning the Atlantic Building-Carroll Square retail leasing contest. Jemal had a 12-month-plus head start, but apparently that wasn’t enough to lease out a single retail space in the Atlantic Building! Thanks Akridge for being committed to a vibrant (not vacant) downtown!!
