New Office Building Approved 700 6th St NW! (And Other Building Permits)

Posted by gpliving
November 28, 2006

As the 777 6th St office building nears completion (that was fast!), the empty lot almost directly across the street (at 700 6th St NW) gains approval for another 12 story office building. Here is the official website for 700 6th St NW. It’s being built by Akridge.

The building will feature one of the city’s first green roofs funded by CBF grants – it’ll be 10,000-sq-ft. According to the official website, the building’s 1st floor can be retail or office.

The Downtown DC construction update pdf tells us that the 3 level garage will hold 152 parking spaces.

If I lived at Gallery Place, I would worry about all of the noise that is going to come with building 700 6th Street. Should have asked Akridge for noise guarantees… happy I don’t live in the 777 7th anymore/

anon: That makes no sense. 700 6th is on the other side of the block and is next to 616 H St, lucky strike & the future home of Bar Louie.

Also, if the (almost completed) 777 6th St office building construction is any indication of noise problems, there won’t be much to worry about.

The only significant noise that I’ve noticed in my apartment from construction is the pile-driving, which they only do during the day and which doesn’t last all that long anyway.

Do we know what’s going into the American Lung Association building?

Thanks for the updates! The Graystar thing at 400 Mass sounds like one of those condo sales offices (like the Dumont sales office in the Clara Barton). And the EPA (whose office space is run by GSA) is already in the Woodies building; probably just expanding their space there or something.

With HT and TJ’s moving into the city, all I need is a Costco in DC so I can stop giving VA my sales tax dollars.

It is nice to see all the updates on building permits in the area.

A Costco is planned as part of a new retail center at Fort Lincoln, called “Washington Gateway” in NE DC. Planned 2008 opening.

Yes, another Harris Teeter in the area. It’s beginning to feel more like my native North Carolina around here.

The day that DC feels like North Carolina to me is the day that I buy my one-way ticket to anywhere but here.

Thanks for the updates. The drawings for 700 6th St property are beautiful. It’s going to be a great addition to the neighborhood.

    Great updates.

BTW, I hope they don’t do any pile driving on 700 6th Street because they are building above the parking garage. It will be interesting to see how they build this.

Anon: I don’t believe gallery place complex garage extends to the 700 6th St footprint. Since the new building includes a 3 level garage, we expect construction crews to dig a big hole and build another garage directly next to the gp complex garage. Still not really sure how that’s supposed to work. But, the 700 6th website states “3 level garage” and we know that the gp complex garage is a 4 level.

The addition on top of 475 H St NW is under way. Any idea what this is going to be?
