Penn Quarter – The building at 6th and F St NW almost became a micro-residential building with living units under 300 square feet. Could you live in under 300 square feet? Would you need a larger space elsewhere to make it work? [Urban Turf DC]
Penn Quarter – The Downtown Holiday Market, a now annual tradition, returns on November 30. The market will run on F St NW between 7th and 9th Streets from Noon to 8 pm from opening through December 23. [Downtown Holiday Market website] & [Downtown Holiday Market Twitter]
Penn Quarter – We mentioned this on Friday but it bears repeating. Art All Night is coming this upcoming Saturday night with a number of venues displaying art or artistic performances open until 3 am. See you there! [Art All Night DC]
Bladensburg Road NE – For those who have been around DC long enough, they remember Bardo Rodeo on Wilson Blvd in Arlington. We spent many a happy hour after work there. Along with the Capitol City Brewing Company whose first location is at 12th and NY Ave NW, Bardo was one of the area’s first very successful brewpubs in the mid-1990s. It may be coming back to Bladensburg Road after a long absence. [WaPo]
Penn Quarter – The monthly Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association meeting is this Wednesday, October 17 at the E Street Cinema. The lineup of speakers includes DC Council, Board of Education, and ANC Invited Candidates pertinent to ANC2C and Ward 2, the Penn Quarter’s electoral district within the DC city government. Continental breakfast begins at 8:30 am, announcements at 8:55 am, and the program at 9:10am.
Please RSVP via email by 5:00pm Monday, October 15 to joann [at] PennQuarter.org and include the first and last names and affiliations of all people attending. [Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association]

Art All Night DC Next Weekend In Penn Quarter (Oct 20)
Cultural Tourism DC’s Art 4 All DC program culminates one week from tomorrow night in an all night arts celebration taking place in Penn Quarter called Art All Night DC (Nuit Blanche). A number of venues and spaces will be open from 7 pm to 3 am in a corridor along 7th, 8th, and 9th Streets NW on Saturday, October 20 allowing visitors to explore and experience free artistic performances and expressions. For the building fanatics out there, we see that two normally closed spaces will be open hosting events, 915 F St NW (former Platinum nightclub) and 401 9th St NW (former SoHo Cafe & Market).

This year’s event is produced by Downtown BID and sponsored by Douglas Development Corporation, Boston Properties, JBG Companies, and Miss Pixies. The event is free, but you will need to “purchase” a ticket.

The Good Old Days in the Vineyard
Any other 90s era college grads out there? Do you remember Jackopierce? Well, they are reunited and playing at The Hamilton (600 14th St., NW) Saturday night. Vineyard is one of those songs that immediately transports me back to those good old days of carefree college life. I hope it makes the playlist!

Penn Quarter – The monthly Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) meeting takes place tonight at the Calvary Baptist Church (755 8th St NW) beginning at 6:30 pm. Guests from the Office of Planning will speak about Penn Quarter plans. [DC DNA]
Downtown/Chinatown – Two more office buildings are slated for downtown/Chinatown from the Gould Property Company. One is at 600 Massachusetts Ave NW and the other is at 900 New York Ave NW, part of the CityCenter DC development. Lots of renderings can be found through the second link. Downtown/Penn Quarter – Having restaurants and bars stay open until 4 am serving alcohol gets a trial run this last holiday weekend. Anybody take in the late night scene? [WaPo- DC Wire]
Downtown – The obituary for Rhett Leverett, a Penn Quarter dweller and Marymount assistant professor sadly killed last week, appears in the Washington Post. Rest in peace, Rhett. [WaPo]
Downtown – Read a write up and see interior shots of Maddy’s Tap Room, now open at 1100 13th St NW with a Texican menu. [Thrillist]
Chinatown – The material girl, Madonna, played at the Verizon Center and WaPo reviews it. Metro had to stay open late because she started at 10:30 pm. Punctuality wasn’t her strong point, apparently. [WaPo]
