Here’s what we were reading last week about neighborhood news in DC.
Mount Vernon Triangle – At last, the Dumont at 425 and 401 Massachusetts Avenue NW gets disposed. Equity Residential, a Chicago based REIT, picks it up for $167M and advertises the units as apartments for rent. Chalk up another couple of hundred residents for the area. Yes! [The Triangle]
Penn Quarter – More insight into the spec office building at 10th and G Streets NW being built by Skanska. [WaPo]
Downtown – After PQ Living breaks the F Street Dress Barn store opening news, the WBJ finds out the opening date. [WaBizJo]
The Mall/Smithsonian – The first After Hours of the season is announced for April 9. DJ, music, art, good crowd, good fun. [Hirshhorn Museum of Art – Smithsonian]
Penn Quarter – Cuba Libre at 9th and H will open in June. [The Triangle]

Tomorrow, March 26, 2010, the old Numark Gallery space (625-627 E St NW) will play host to a new arts project in DC. Dubbed a pop-up project, there will be a series of innovative, curated art exhibitions and events that “pop-up” at various locations throughout Washington, DC. The very first pop-up exhibition will be in the Penn Quarter! Nine artists will be featured in this exhibition, titled I Dream Awake, from March 26 – May 8th.
And, of course, be sure to visit a pop-up project’s Facebook page where you can interact with others and learn more.
Thanks to the Washington Glass School blog for the tip.
Special DNA Meeting Tonight Honoring Miles Groves
Normally, PQ Living posts a notice about the Downtown Neighborhood Association’s (DNA) monthly meeting before the second Tuesday of each month but this month we did not do so. Sadly, the President of the DNA, Miles Groves, passed away earlier this month and the Convention Center Community Association has a fitting post up announcing the purpose of a special DNA meeting this evening honoring Miles’ work in the neighborhood.
The DNA also sent us this note about tonight’s meeting…
DNA Meeting Reminder
Wednesday, March 24th DNA meeting at Calvary Baptist Church. We start at 6:30PM with our PSA101W update. Following the PSA101W update, the meeting will remember Miles for all of his dedication and devotion to this Association and neighborhood. Leaders from government agencies and organizations from all over the District of Columbia will come and be invited to say a few words about Miles. Please join us in honoring a great man and an outstanding leader.
The Calvary Baptist Church is at 755 8th Street NW at the corner of H Street NW – the entrance is on 8th Street.
DressBarn Coming To F Street

Our morning run took us down the 1300 block of F street NW and we noticed that DressBarn is coming to a large retail space on the block (the Shops on F ST). Next door is a Verizon Wireless(1314 F ST), this DressBarn location is probably replacing the old Farragut West location. The Farragut North DressBarn is still open though, as far as we know.
