A Quick Look At Funxion (1309 F St NW)
We popped our heads one afternoon after work into Funxion, a restaurant, bar, and DJ/music performance space at 1309 F St NW that has been in the works for a few months. Before being renovated for Funxion, this space was home to the dislocated Kemp Mill Records back in the day when retail music was hanging on by a thread. Walk in and you’ll see a long eating and drinking counter spanning the left wall for the entire depth of the space as well as a shorter curved bar near the front window on the right. Food service comes from the rear of the space and on the left wall towards the rear is a large video screen (check past the break for the video menu).
This concept spot features a focus on healthy food, crafted and consciously chosen drinks and also has a DJ loft which can accommodate an additional one or two performers for evening events. No official word on hours of operation but we’ll be stopping by to check out the fare and report further.

Here’s what we were reading last week about neighborhood news in DC.
Mount Vernon Triangle – Buddha Bar on Mass Ave is getting closer to opening. More eyes and legs on the street will be good. [The Triangle]
Penn Quarter – Ever wonder about the history behind the twin spired building on Pennsylvania Avenue at 7th Street NW? We did until we read this. [Streets of Washington]
Mount Vernon Triangle – Sneak in the construction of a parking lot…a sure way to tick off a neighborhood. [Life In Mount Vernon Square]
Shaw – Douglas Development sets its sights on developing the southwest corner of 9th and N Streets NW. [RenewShaw]
Eckington – A progress update on The Metropolitan Branch Trail, a bike and pedestrian trail that will serve the east side of the city. One can track the project’s progress online on a DC Government website – that’s transparency in government! [Eckington: Way Better Than Spotsylvania]
Columbia Heights – Another whimsical entry in the Street Booze series from our colleagues in CH. This time it comes in a box. [New Columbia Heights]
Capitol Waterfront – The Eagles (with special guests Keith Urban and The Dixie Chicks) are coming to Nats Park. [JD Land: Ballpark And Beyond]
All Over DC – A more serious discussion about resident’s access to retail groceries from the group DC Hunger Solutions. Are some wards better served by grocery stores than others? [Prince of Petworth]

We would like to take the opportunity to welcome PQ’s newest museum, the German-American Heritage Museum (719 6th St NW), to the neighborhood! The grand opening is this Sunday from noon-5pm.
A sneak peak can be had by visiting the GAHMuseum’s Facebook page which has amassed an impressive 746 fans prior to the grand opening. We’re excited to see 6th Street NW continue to liven up with the addition of this museum.
