Future 704 3rd St NW Office Building Gets Signage
Thanks to Claire for sending in a tip that some signs have gone up at the site of the future 704 3rd St NW office building. We also observed some light construction activity on the site today. This office building will incorporate the old Canterbury apartment building. Two years ago (wow, that’s eons in Internet time), we viewed the plans (pictures included) of the future office building. This building will also include an automated car parking system.

14th Street – A new, large furniture store will be coming to DC at 14th and T Streets, NW. [CityPaper – Housing Complex]
All over DC – Police stepped up seat belt law enforcement last month. We’ve seen spot checks and pull overs at Connecticut Ave and Calvert Street as well as Connecticut Ave and Fessenden Street in Northwest. [Greater Greater Washington]
Trinidad – Lots of reaction to the shooting of Trey Joyner by police in the 1200 block of Holbrook Street, NE. [Frozen Tropics]
U Street, 13th Street and Georgia Avenue – Wale (pronounced “wah-lay”) video features DC as a backdrop in a variety of shots. Nats hat spotted in the video along with Lady Gaga who does back up vocals. We like his opening line…”DC chillin!” [Mix Institute]
Technicolor Sunday
Come for the lecture, stay for the films. We love the various film and lecture series that go on at the National Gallery of Art’s East building auditorium, but we’re particularly interested in the combo being shown today. Starting at 2 pm archivist and historian David Pierce will be discussing the history and uses of Technicolor, particularly as it was used for outdoor shots.
Two movies follow the lecture; at 3 pm the gallery will be showing the musical Follow Thru (with Nancy Carroll & Buddy Rogers); then at 5 pm they’ll be showing The Trail of the Lonesome Pine (Henry Fonda, Fred MacMurray, Sylvia Sidney), which was the first feature film to use outdoor Technicolor filming. In between those two films the gallery will also show the short comedy, Service with a Smile.
Despite the typically beautiful weather in DC this time of year, these lecture/film events usually have a capacity crowd. If you’ve got an interest in Technicolor films, film lectures, or any of these movies we encourage to get there early. These free series at the National Gallery of Art are just another reason we feel lucky to be living in and around such a great city.
