Capital Pride Festival On Sunday – Penn Ave
The annual Capital Pride Street Festival will take place on Sunday, June 14th from 11 am to 6 pm on Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th Street, NW and 3rd Street, NW – this means this section of the street will be closed for most of Sunday (map [PDF]). None other than RuPaul (remember this song about a million dollar derriere…sashay, chantey) is headlining on the main stage and Martha Wash is listed also (another club classic) for the closing hours between 4 pm and 6 pm. A $2-$5 contribution is suggested when arriving at the entrance gate to defray festival costs, however, no one will be turned away.
Ping Pong Restaurant Set To Open At 7th & I St NW
Thanks to Dave for the early tip that a new restaurant appears set to open at 900 7th St NW (approx 7th & I). According to the ABRA application, the restaurant will hold about 250 people and serve Asian cuisine. A quick google search reveals another Asian retaurant with the same name in Chicago, but we have to indication that the two restaurants are related.
She Blinded Me With Library Science
We’re not perfect, we’re only human. Like a president (or two), we have known lust in our hearts. For many of us, at one time or another, the object of our (ahem) affection has been a librarian. Even Mrs Columbo has been known to fancy a librarian.
That’s why we were excited to see the Special Libraries Association is having their annual conference right here in DC next week. June 14th to 17th The DC Convention Center (and presumably Penn Quarter) will be teeming with librarians. We’re clearly not the only ones looking forward to this event, word on the street is that Mayor Fenty has signed a proclamation naming that very same week “Special Libraries Association Week.”
We’re not sure what to expect from a sudden influx of thousands of librarians, but we’re assuming it will be all good. We know the shushing librarian often depicted in TV and movies isn’t accurate, and Katherine Hepburn in Desk Set fighting for her job against the huge IBM computer is probably too archaic a reference for many. Besides, we don’t want to stereotype librarians; we expect next week to be poetry in motion.
