Inauguration 2009 Photos: Best Of The Rest & Recap
Hosting 1.8 million people on the National Mall for Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration and parade was no cake walk but the neighborhood made it through the event in one piece. We couldn’t put up every inaugural event photo sent in right away so we compiled a “best of the rest” and have it for you at the bottom in approximately chronological order. Covering the inauguration was a great way to show off our slice of Washington DC to the rest of the country who came to enjoy the festivities. Also, find a recap of our stories from that historical weekend along with the photo gallery of the best of the rest.

Old Man Winter Is No Friend Of Ours
Don’t mistake the title of this post as a complaint about snow, we love snow. Ice, however, we hate.
Snapping photos around 8:30 am Tuesday morning (the aftermath of the fire*) the sidewalks were covered with snow as more came pouring from the sky. For a brief moment we allowed ourselves to believe it would continue to dump all day, daydreaming of early release from the office and playing on the Mall in the snow. Unfortunately as quickly as it fell, it seems the snow was being cleared by the various people whose job it is to make sure none of us slip/fall/sue.
By 2 pm the snow had stopped, and you wouldn’t even know it had fallen if not for the tree boxes (and that snow seems to come down yellow). Insult to injury of course is that when the precipitation began again around 6 pm on Tuesday night, it was coming down in the form of ice. By the time you’re reading this on Wednesday morning even more ice is predicted to have come down. Ice is nobody’s friend.
We hope this isn’t the only snowstorm we get this winter, but if it is we’re happy we were able to spend a little time in a snow covered Penn Quarter.
* DCFD.com reports that 5 firefighters received injuries described as non-life threatening; we wish them a speedy recovery.
