Shakespeare Theater Takes Hamlet To The Park (Free!)
Our PQ neighbor, The Shakespeare Theatre Company, just began its annual Free For All production. This year, they are showing Michael Kahn’s production of “Hamlet” at Carter Barron Amphitheatre in Rock Creek Park. The free production runs under the stars from May 22-June 1, at 7:30 p.m. nightly (no performance Mondays). We saw this show last year and it is a definite crowd pleaser!
As far as getting there is concerned, we recommend taking your Vespa (there is free off-street parking). The public transit route consists of taking the Green line to Columbia Heights and transferring to the 52/54 until you cross Iowa Avenue. The cross streets for the amphitheatre are 16th St. and Colorado Ave. NW.

Jazz In The Garden Starts Tonight!
One of our favorite things to do when the weather gets nice is hit up the Sculpture Garden’s Jazz In The Garden after work on Fridays. The National Gallery of Art gives the Sculpture Garden an outdoorsy European cafe feel every Friday afternoon by pulling in a jazz, blues or swing band act to play in the open air for a couple of hours. Tonight’s featured act is Alex Martin’s Amérique Latine (Euro-Latin Jazz) starting at 5 pm and you can check the summer schedule for more information on other dates.
Bring your blanket, bring your friends, bring your Whole Paycheck (I mean Whole Foods) prepared foods and bring some beverages (that of course adhere to the rules…) !!! If you don’t want to bring food and drink, you can always buy it at the Garden. We see lots of happy festive people at this weekly event and you should be one of them. So check it out.
Jazz In The Garden runs Fridays from May 23 to October 3 at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden, located on the National Mall at 7th Street and Constitution Avenue NW, and bounded by Constitution Avenue and Madison Drive and by 7th and 9th Streets NW.
