RSS FeedPQNA Breakfast Meeting At The Newseum Next Tuesday!
On April 1, the Pennsylvania Quarter Neighborhood Association breakfast meeting will be held at the Newseum on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, just east of 6th Street. You will have a sneak preview of the almost-finished museum with its 14 galleries, 15 theaters, and 4-D film.
A continental breakfast will be available in the food court beginning at 8:30am. Following announcements at 9:00 and brief introduction, we encourage you to tour the museum.

Bruegger’s Set To Open Soon!
We got an inside look at the new Bruegger’s Bagel Shop going in at 505 E 9th ST. One of the construction workers (foreman?) told us the shop was set to open on Friday, April 4th. We want to believe him, if he was pulling our leg wouldn’t he have said April 1st?
Nats Prez Plays PQ Resident For A Day
Stan Kasten, president of the Washington Nationals baseball team, was seen last Wednesday riding the Metro. He was promoting mass transit as a way to get to the baseball game for this upcoming season.
What’s interesting is that the trek started at the Gallery Place station and went to the Navy Yard station. Kasten could have taken the Metro from L’Enfant Plaza (another transfer point) and saved himself 3 – 4 minutes, but no. He wanted to see what it was like to be a Penn Quarter resident for a day! That’s right folks, Kasten demonstrated the 7 minute commute to Nationals baseball park from Penn Quarter. As a reward for making the round-trip journey (yes, he took the yellow green line back to Gallery Place) we would like to declare Stan Kasten an honorary PQ resident!
Kasten was also sporting a new Nats-branded SmarTrip card. For all of you residents who want matching cards in your wallet, the Nats SmarTrip card is a perfect companion to your red American Express card! It also pairs with the Centurion Card quite nicely. But, we strongly recommend against pairing the Nats SmarTrip card with AMEX Green or Blue cards.

Hollywood, Downtown DC Style
Anyone walking by the old convention center parking lot (now called ‘Center City Parking‘) will have seen semi trucks like this one that makes “Ridiculously Wide Turns” forming DC’s own temporary Hollywood home base. Walking to Brasserie Beck for dinner this weekend, pqresident spotted a mobile gym (much like The Muscle Truck) and multiple RVs for sleeping accommodations. State of Play starring Ben Affleck, Russell Crowe and a few other notables is in town shooting and Gridskipper has a running commentary and Google map mash up showing all the in-town shoot locations and latest star spottings. PQ Living is accepting paparazzi submissions.
