Scanning this week’s DCRA permits yielded the following info:
The space at the corner of 10th & F St (which hosts the window decal of a woman’s face) is getting started with construction of the Peruvian Connection store. The store will occupy the first floor and the basement level. We wrote about the lease agreement last October, but forgot that it was going to be at 950 F St NW – oops!

Also, we see the first permit pulled for PQ’s own sushi restaurant-to-be named Sei. We wrote about this much anticipated restaurant last November. The original opening date was supposed to be in February, but it looks like we have a few more months of waiting before the restaurant opens.

Nice Cans!
For the last month or so the National Park Service has been replacing the garbage cans on the Mall. Above you see the newly installed cans, bolted down to a freshly laid patch of cement. While not showy, these cans certainly look ready to take on the litter of the hordes who utilize the mall.

Platinum Nightclub Swimming With The Fishes

Last year, Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham started a trend in DC. If there is a stabbing or shooting related to a nightclub, that club will be shut down and have its liquor license revoked. Graham did this twice last year by closing the Smarta/Broadway (1919 9th St NW) and H2O (800 Water St SW) clubs. H2O later reopened.
It would appear that our Ward 2 Councilmember, Jack Evans, will not be outdone by a fellow councilmember. PQLiving has received confirmation that Evans’ office has sent a letter to the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration requesting that Platinum’s liquor license be revoked. Also, MPD Police Chief Lanier sent a letter to Platinum’s owner informing him that his club has been shut down for 96 hours. The police chief’s letter is very telling. The 10th St shooting was a result of two altercations inside the Platinum club – none of which were reported to the MPD. Chief Lanier also wrote a letter to ABRA.
The real kicker is that the owner of Platinum is the same owner of H20, which was shut down by Jim Graham last year.
The 915 F St NW building is owned by Stavins & Axelrod (phone: 202-223-8220, fax: 202-452-1924, email: raxelrod@stavinsaxelrod.com). Since Platinum is all but dead, let the speculation begin on who will occupy the space in the future!
The Ice Cream Man?
We spotted this truck at 11th & G on Monday afternoon. The truck was parked right next to the hot dog vendor on the same corner. The truck was playing It’s a Small World (turn down your speakers) which was reason enough to not investigate further. Anyone ever seen this in the neighborhood before? Ever bought any dogs or ice cream from this thing?
