Eau d’Elevator (Or How I Learned To Identify Chanel No. 5)
The holidays this year reminded me of a small reason I like living on a higher floor in my downtown condo and having a slightly longer ride down from my crow’s nest. Is it the groceries getting exponentially heavier as you ascend? No. Maybe it’s stopping on a half dozen floors before being released during morning rush hour? Nope. You can find a tick mark next to the plus column thanks to a little puzzle I call Eau d’Elevator, identifying the fragrances donned by night outers. Bear with me on this one…
Shakespeare Theatre Jan/Feb Productions In Sight
With the arrival of the new year comes the departure of the Marlowe repertory and the arrival of productions for January and February at the Shakespeare Theatre.
On January 12, the first-ever family show, titled On the Eve of Friday Morning and written by local playwright Norman Allen kicks off. The show explores the riches of Persian culture and is for ages 8 and up.
On January 15, Mary Zimmerman’s adaptation of the myth of Jason and the Argonauts, Argonautika starts up at the Lansburgh Theatre and runs until March 2.
On February 19, George Bernard Shaw’s Major Barbara opens at Harman Hall.

Pedestrian Struck In 7th & H St Intersection Yesterday Morning
This PQ resident is now used to all kinds of city street noise; the routine sounds of buses and sirens just fade into the background. Early on Sunday morning, when traffic was light, this resident heard a distinctly different sound emanating from the street. Commander Kamperin (1st District MPD) fills us in on what happened:
At about 3:12 am [Jan 6th] units responded to a hit and run, pedestrian struck at 7th and H St NW. The investigation revealed that the pedestrian was in the cross walk with the signal walking south bound when a white vehicle, heading eastbound proceeded through the light and struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian suffered lacerations and complained of pain and was transported to the hospital for observation. A witness gave us tag information on the vehicle and we anticipate that this will be closed. Anyone with additional information should contact our Hit and Run office at 202-698-0313.
