Last week, this blogger was surprised that some PQ residents had never heard of the Textile Museum which is currently located at 2320 S St NW, and is expanding to a space on 7th St in Penn Quarter.
Well, we thought we’d mention one Penn Quarter museum that people probably walk by every day without really noticing: The Bead Museum at 400 7th St NW.
The museum has a very affordable membership program, and free admission (suggested donation of $3), and hours of Tuesday through Saturday noon to 6 pm. You can read about their mission and see their calendar of events.
FIOS…Not Too Far Away?
In July we griped a bit about the District’s not getting FIOS while many suburban jurisdictions are enjoying their superfast Internet, digital TV and voice service. According to a recent WaPo article, Verizon filed in August to provide television service in the District. Does this mean we’ll get FIOS sooner rather than later?
How Do You Cause Backups Downtown?
The answer of course is to hold The Nation’s Triathlon. PQ Living’s intrepid writer Columbo checked in by sending a few pictures from the field. Talk about downtown traffic! This writer headed uptown to Chevy Chase and was thwarted at every turn by MPD cruisers diverting traffic away from the course route. He had to thread his way down K Street, north through the West End and onto Massachusetts Avenue to head up the big hill instead of the more speedy 9th Street tunnel to Maine Avenue to Rock Creek Parkway. Definitely missed the memo on this one. The weather was perfect for a triathlon though and despite the inconvenience, we like the idea of having marquis events in the Nation’s Capital.
These Boots Are Made For Walkin’
Strap on your walking boots as downtown and the PQ will be the scene of four different walks tomorrow. Put on by Cultural Tourism DC, you’ll probably learn something you never knew before about our fair city and neighborhood. Other walks are also taking place in other ‘hoods around the city – the full schedule is here. All tours are free…now that’s a price everyone can agree to!
