A few weeks ago we noted that West Elm had a new sign up above their main entrance on G ST. This past week, we noticed that the sign had come down. No workers were around to ask why the change, but all seems to be moving forward on this location so we’re not taking it as a bad omen.
Smithsonian’s Norman Foster Designed Courtyard Opens Nov. 18 (8th & F St NW)
The Smithsonian has a press release informing us that the Robert and Arlene Kogod Courtyard of the Donald W. Reynolds Center opens to the public Sunday, Nov. 18. The enclosed courtyard will feature a glass canopy designed by world-renowned architect Norman Foster, and a variety of trees, plantings, and water feature by designer Kathryn Gustafson.
An all-day, free festival in the Kogod Courtyard is planned for opening day.
And, best of all, this means that we get our sidewalk back on the west side of 7th St NW between F & G St!

Old Lei Garden & China Doll Buildings Go Transparent (627-631 H St NW)
We were expecting the worst when we read about the planned demolition of the old Lei Garden and China Doll buildings at 627-631 H St NW. But, as you can see from this picture, it appears that the facades of both buildings will be preserved in Yeni Wong’s new retail and office building.
Happy Hour For Penn Quarter Residents This Friday At UltraBar
