Isn’t it great having a baseball team in town? No more having to make the long (time, if not distance) drive to Baltimore anymore, now an short metro ride gets you to the game easily.
But if you’re like this blogger, you dread the metro ride home (at least if the game is packed and the score close in late innings), knowing that thousands of people are going to be heading down into the metro at the same time as you.
Here are two alternatives for getting back to PQ if you want to skip the train (and assuming you are not driving).
One option is to walk home, although for many this is really only an option for day games. On a recent Sunday afternoon this blogger walked home from a baseball game. Took about 40 minutes to get to My Brother’s Place over on 2nd & Constitution Ave NW. They were packed so I walked another 15 or 20 mins to Harry’s instead. Total time to walk from RFK to Harry’s was about an hour, and who can’t use a pleasant 3 mile walk after a few beers & dogs?
Another option is the D6 bus, and this option splits into two paths. You can ride the D6 (towards Sibley Hospital) either all the way into PQ, or get off at Union Station. I’ve taken this ride quite a few times; it’s not fast but it does go right up E ST (after leaving Union Station) from North Capitol to about 13th ST. Weekdays the bus runs late, and has service fairly often, weekends the bus also runs late, but there are longer delays between pickups. The D6 is also a decent option for getting to the games, if you don’t mind the delays around Union Station.
Are there any other good options for getting to RFK? The new park will be about 2 miles (as the crow flies) from PQ, but I’m not sure anyone would walk it.
