Guacamole Day At Fresh Farm Market: At 5 pm today, the chefs from Cafe Atlantico will be demonstrating their guacamole making techniques at the Penn Quarter’s Fresh Farm Market. Sampling will follow. The Penn Quarter’s Fresh Farm Market is open on 8th Street every Thursday from 3 pm to 7 pm from April to November.
Bye Bye Coyote Ugly, Hello RNR: Amanda writes in to let us know that Coyote Ugly is going the way of the dinosaur to be replaced by the RNR Bar & Lounge. Get it. RNR. Opening soon.
Signatures Gets A Replacement: Cheryl writes in to tell us that Francesco Ricchi has teamed with Enzo Febbraro, formerly Executive Chef at Filomena, to open a seafood-only restaurant in the Penn Quarter where Signatures used to be. Enzo will be the chef at the restaurant, slated to open before the end of the year. A young designer new to the market will make cosmetic changes to the site. No name has been confirmed, but “d`Acqua” is a strong contender.
Douglas Jemal 1, Polly Esther’s 0
Demolition work and lot clearing continues on F Street between 11th and 12th and as GP Living speculated earlier, the Polly Esther’s building is now rubble. What’s going up in its place? A 250,000 square foot office building, courtesy of Douglas Jemal, will grace the block. 10th Street across from Ford’s Theatre, home of The Waffle Shop, awaits the same fate.
Editor’s Note: GP Living previously reported on the 1000 F Street Project that “Preliminary plans should also include developed plans for the restoration of the historic façade and salvage of significant features of the old Waffle Shop.” We encourage historic preservation where appropriate but these preliminary plans are just that – preliminary.

The 3rd Annual DC Shorts Film Festival will be lifting off next week September 14 through September 17 with main screenings taking place in the East End’s own Landmark E Street Theatre and two showcase screenings occurring at the Canadian Embassy. A number of film festivals take over screens every year in Washington including the DC Independent Film Festival, Filmfest DC and the Guerilla Film Fest. DC Shorts looks to be a well organized affair with 94 films making the cut this year and trophies in various “best of” categories will be handed out at the end of the festival. A number of sponsors are involved this year including the Downtown BID, GoDCGo (a DDOT initiative), the DC Film Alliance and other corporate sponsors.
After the Opening Night Screening, the festival will kick into high gear with a party at Drinx (601 F Street, NW, in the Verizon Center) on Thursday, September 14 from 9:00pm to 11:00pm. The event will allow film enthusiasts to meet the visiting filmmakers in a relaxed atmosphere. Clips of the films will be projected onto the walls, and Omega Band, a local favorite and offical band of the festival, will perform live for the guests. The Opening Night Party is open to anyone with a valid festival ticket and all pass holders.

The next ANC 2C meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 6th, 6:30PM, Africare 440 R Street NW. Residents of Mather Studios, Residences at Gallery Place, Terrell Place, and the Ventana are encouraged to attend the meeting to understand why we need to show our vote on Nov 7th.
