1791DC Opened And Piano Bar Gets Name/Logo: "proof"
We have belated news from the corner of 8th and G St NW. The 1791DC deli opened on August 2nd. As we suspected, the hours of the deli are 7am-4pm, Mon-Fri. Just for the office crowd! Also, just around the corner, we see a newer sign for the piano bar, “proof,” that will be opening in the spring of 2007. At least residents will be able to enjoy the piano bar when it opens next year.
More People See Penn Quarter As A Residential Neighborhood
One mission of our humble blog is to get the word out that, amongst the beautiful museums, courts, and other federal & office buildings, people also live in the Penn Quarter section of town.
We don’t take credit for single-handedly informing the world on Penn Quarter happenings, but in our regular blog searching we came across some evidence that people are thinking residential:

The vaulted, airy, cool interior of the National Building Museum … formerly the Pension Building … It’s located near where I work down by Judiciary Square and the section of the city called “Penn Quarter” where there are actually quite a few condos and a whole neighborhood I never really knew existed. It’s an odd section of town.

Anyway, after we hit up the Juan, we walk through the Penn Quarter, which has become our favorite neighborhood. (If we had a cool half-mill to drop on a condo in one of those fabulous, restored buildings, we SO would — property taxes be damned.) We like to sit at the Navy Memorial off Pennsylvania Avenue — right across from the National Archives — and watch the people go by. The tourists are the best. For obvious reasons.
Two Pics From The Neighborhood
The south side of the 777 6th St NW office building is integrating this beautiful old Victorian (far left of the pic). We are still puzzled about the steel structure to the right of the Victorian. It seems like it is a temporary structure to be used during construction and torn down afterwards. The Avalon at Gallery Place is in the background and Coyote Ugly (undergoing renovations soon) to the right.
Also, here is a pic of the almost complete Sonata (301 Massachusetts Ave NW). Let us be the first blog to welcome the future residents to the neighborhood!
