- A Seattle’s Best Coffee is going up next to Ruth Chris’ Steak House (around 9th and G Pl, roughly across from Zaytinya). They look like they are pretty advanced in building out the space.
Bedrock Billiards Update And More In Gallery Place
Thanks to otavio, Cheryl, and Sam for pointing us to the Washington Business Journal’s article on Bedrock Billiards! (We had to wait a week for this update because the online version of the journal lags the print version)
There is a lot of interesting info jam-packed into this one article. Here are the highlights:
- Bedrock Management, is putting together a lease at 714 Seventh St. NW with Douglas Development for 5,000 square feet in a basement that will highlight the company’s standard offerings: pool, shuffleboard and board games
- Bedrock’s space will be ready in six months
- It’s [7th St around the Verizon Center] a sizable parcel in a high-rent strip that’s commanding more than $80 per square foot
- Comfort One Shoes and Ecco are expected to open this summer
- Former Vidalia executive chef Peter Smith signed a lease at Seventh and Eye streets NW in March — after a year of negotiations — to open a modern American restaurant. We reported this earlier.
- Not much is left in the area. There’s a 30,000-square-foot parcel of retail expected to become available at Seventh and H streets NW, now home to CVS and owned by Yeni Wong. “The property doesn’t deliver for two years,” says Transwestern Commercial Services broker Bill Miller, whose company is soft marketing the space now.
- CVS may stay in the space, says Miller, who’s negotiating with the retailer. Regardless, more than 20,000 square feet will be available at $100 a square foot

Gallery Place/Penn Quarter restaurants or their employees received 15 nominations for a RAMMY Award, the Oscars of the DC restaurant industry. You can help make them winners by voting through a special ballot in the Washington Post on Sunday, May 21st. If you miss Sunday’s paper, you can vote on line at www.ramw.org, the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington’s website. GPLiving can’t find a voting link yet on the website, so maybe it will go active on monday.
