Not much action in this update.. and no, there are no new permits for the Balducci’s. I did walk past the Balducci’s last weekend and one of the doors was open to reveal a handful of workers in a dimly-lit room populated with concrete pillars. The only information I have is that the Balducci’s will have a seating area and also around 50+ dedicated parking spaces.
Onto the single permit update: Rainbow Inn Restaurant (611 H St NW) gets a facelift! Here are the details: 2 NEW AWNINGS, NEW BASEMENT STEPS AND RAILING, NEW SIGNS, CHANGE BASEMENT DOORWAY TO ACCEPT NEW STAIRWAY.

Gallery Place Farmer’s Market Opening Next Week!
It’s that time of the year – Farmer’s Markets will be gracing DC’s streets during the warmer months of the year. We’re excited to learn that the Penn Quarter/Gallery Place Farmer’s Market will open this year on April 6th (next Thursday). The location is on the North end of 8th St. NW, between D and E Sts. NW.
Probably the greatest part about the Penn Quarter/Gallery Place market is that, even though it is held every Thursday (rather than on a weekend), it is open from 3pm to 7pm. So, stop on by after work to pick up some great produce!
One feature of the Freshfarm Market is that they host a local Chef at Market who performs demonstrations, tastings and book signings. Cesare Lanfranconi, from Ristorante Tosca (1112 F St. NW), will be the Chef at Market next Thursday starting at 5pm!

Aveda Institute Construction?
Many of you may have noticed that the first floor of the Aveda Institute on 7th St in Gallery Place seems to be under construction. This appeared strange to us considering Aveda opened up shop only a few months ago. Well, we inquired within and discovered that there was a problem with their water heater. We can only suspect that the first floor got flooded in some way that resulted in having to tear up the floor.
The good news is that once the repairs are complete, the store will move from the 2nd floor back down to the first floor.
Cherry Blossom Report
Gallery Place Living Is Back! We thought we’d have tons of info to report upon returning, but it seems like things have been a little dull lately.
We did catch a glimpse at the Cherry Blossom Festival opening ceremonies at the Building Museum last Saturday. There were some interesting displays, like bonsai trees (courtesy of the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum at the National Arboretum in Northeast), and a Dance Dance Revolution station, as well as traditional Japanese garments and music. Also, we spotted Mayor Anthony Williams and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton as they watched the festivities.
