Soon the Jewish Historical Society’s synagogue will be on the move again, this time to the corner of Third & F Streets, NW. Its surrounding neighborhood is no stranger to change and has a colorful and ever-evolving history.
Learn about the people and communities who once lived here from Professor Wallace J. Mlyniec of Georgetown University Law Center. Professor Mlyniec, a prolific researcher and writer on neighborhood history, has been involved in all of the Law Center’s expansions since 1980. Get a sneak peak!

Four Eateries & More Going At Prequel (918 F St NW)
Opened this spring in the former Living Social space, Prequel (918 F St NW) is now in full swing hosting four ongoing restaurant/food concepts and multiple pop-ups. On any given week there is a different program of food to choose from. We’ve visited Prequel a handful of times for both food and drink and enjoyed both each time we visited.
Prequel announced two new chef residencies with Nick Sharpe (formerly at After Peacock) and Hamilton Johnson (formerly at Vidalia) who will offer dinner series for a number of months.
Currently running on an ongoing basis are:
- Brick and Mortar – evening bar with bar snacks and sandwiches menu
- Bluebird Bakery – breakfast and lunch items
- Fourth Floor Wine Bar – evening wine bar with a bites menu (cheese, flatbreads, and salads)
- BFF (Burgers. Fries. Forever.) – lunchtime burger bar
Rotating pop-ups include:
- Rising Stars Chef Series – various chefs show off their talents on Monday nights
- Jolene – evening dinner Tuesdays through Saturday from Chef Nick Sharpe, former chef at After Peacock

DBGB Links It
We had just about given up on DBGB (931 H St., NW). Having had many memorable meals at Daniel Boulud’s NYC restaurants, including one of our most memorable dinners ever at Daniel, we were so excited to have DBGB open in the neighborhood. But previous visits to date had us thinking maybe some places and Chefs just don’t expand to new markets well. All that changed on our most recent visit. The selection of sausages, especially the Thai and Tunisienne, will have us coming back again soon.
In other news, Social Reform (formerly the Caucus Room) and have posted notification on their doors that the restaurant will be closing at their 401 9th Street location. While we are sad to see one of DC’s classic Power Lunch spots go, we look forward to seeing what’s ahead for this prime piece of real estate.
China Chilcano (418 7th St NW) Now Open For Weekend Brunch
Chica Chilcano (418 7th St NW) opened in the long forlorn Olsson’s Bookstore space earlier this year and has become another Jose Andres hit. (We sometimes think that our neighborhood should be called Joselandia but we digress.) The restaurant has now hit full operational service with the addition of Saturday and Sunday brunch service as we learned from the Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association below:
